More Than I Can Believe

God's love was always a mystery -
For look at what I see:
nothing but curse and fire;
locked into a life of adversity.

The verses about His floodgates
never made sense to me.
For where is the balance
when trials are beyond necessity?

I never believed in blessings,
and chanted for strength to overcome.
Joy was simply abstract art;
a hope that I could keep from falling apart.

The reason the Lord was never enough,
is because I was unable to receive.
Now I pray for blessings,
and I am given more than I can believe.
