The Tithe

It always seemed like
I never had enough;
barely enough to eat;
almost late again with the rent.

I was always grateful
that God got me through;
but wishing for more to ease
my suffering (with new shoes).

Eventually things turned
around - for the better.
As God started blessing me
with a decent car, steak and security.

Praise the Lord, I bought a
new car, condo and some luxury.
The payments are tough but the overtime
is easy and the blessing's like infinity.

At the end of my life, I lay in
a large comfortable bed; thinking
"I have gained everything"
and will be buried in a casket fit for a king.

The Lord has truly blessed me;
with more than I can remember.
"Lord I pray that You bless others
with even a tenth of what You have given me."

As I face the Lord, He asks, "what
have you done with all of My blessings?"
I suddenly realize with great shame and poverty:
I have spent every penny on me.
