"Who am I" Oh, how I wish I could understand.
This very knowledge too lofty for me to comprehend.
Only through the Lord will my search not end in vain.
For the fact that He is Creator of all, is plain.
You saw me when I was woven together in the Earth's depths.
In that secret place, my frame was not hidden from Your face.
You created my inmost being; knitting me in my mother's womb;
the fact that I am fearfully and wonderfully made, I cannot deny.
Where can I go from Your Spirit?
For, You are familiar with all my ways.
You are there when I come to the end of myself;
"Who am I": broken and naked with nowhere to hide.
You search me and know me, perceiving my thoughts from afar off;
You know when I sit and when I rise; discerning all that I do.
You know me by name; in fact, on the palms of Your hands, it's engraved.
The very hairs on my head are numbered, every tear You have saved.
I see myself and I realize I am not as bad as I could be.
Yet I fall so short; sinking in typical depravity.
"Who am I" to think I can come before You in sin; for You are holy.
Yet You paid the price so I can approach Your throne boldly.
You have paid my debt.
I am not my own, but have been bought with a price.
I am Your bondslave:
reliant on You, accountable to You, so thankful to You.
As I ask and seek and knock for understanding of who I am,
I realize I am sinner, but I have also found the I AM THAT I AM
Knowing that I am wicked and live in a body of sin,
I wish to die to myself and pick up my cross and follow Him.
Lord, I wish to be broken of spirit; willing to do things Your way;
for You, Lord, are the potter and I am the clay.
Lord, I wish to lose my life and find it in Jesus who sets me free.
Then instead of, "Who am I", I can say, "Christ in me".
