IF I JUST UNDERSTOOD GOD'S PLAN

Prov 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

If we could live Prov 3:5-6 perfectly, then:  we would never be anxious, we would never lack faith, we would never fear, we would have a tremendous prayer life, and we would probably not sin (or at least not be controlled by it).  How do we get there?

• "Trust in the Lord with all your heart ..."
  • How do we do this?  By walking in faith according to what the Lord has revealed to us through prayer, fellow Christians, and Scripture.
  • Psalm 37:1-11  Rest in the Lord and He will bless you.
  • Jer 9:23-24  Let the man glory not in his wisdom, but in the fact that he knows Me.
  
  
• "... lean not on your understanding ..."
  • Is this verse advocating turning off your brain and leaping into blind faith?  NO!
  • Understanding is not bad, but we need to remember that we are limited.  (Compared to God, we hardly know anything.)  Therefore, trusting in God has great power because God has great power of understanding.
  • Is 40:28  "There is no searching of His understanding"
  • Rom 11:33  "... How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past us ..."
  • Also, God is not stingy but wants to give us wisdom and undertanding.  Many of the circumstances we face in this world are impossible for us to comprehend, or too big for our psyches to cope with.
  
  
• "... In all your ways acknowledge Him ..."
  • What does acknowledging God mean?  To be mindful of Him and to willingly serve Him.
  • 1Chron 28:9  "... serve Him with a loyal heart and a willing mind; ..."
  • Remember, God is not interested in religiosity.  See:  1Sam 15, Psalm 51, Hos 6:6
  • Hos 4:1-2  "... there is no ... knowledge of God in the land ..."
    • If you don't acknowledge God, you will eventually lose knowledge of God, and you will be lost.
  
  
• "... and He shall direct your paths"
  • What do you want out of life?  Comfort and/or pleasure?
  • What is God's desire for your life?
  • Let's try to get to know the Lord and His love for us.  Then we will experience these verses in our lives:
    • John 10:10  "... I have come to give life and that more abundantly"
    • Is 54:4-8,11-15  These verses are a good example of what the Lord wants to do for us all, if we exercise the wisdom and strength to humble ourselves.
